Central Maui is the heart center of the island. The main airport and harbor, most of the supply centers, the hospital, university, and the seat of the county government can be found there. If it’s on Maui, it will likely be found somewhere Central.
In addition to supplies, there are hidden gems to be found as well. Places like the scenic, serene, and historic Iao Valley which produces much of the water supply for the island, and the quaint little town of Wailuku with its a fabulous coffee spot (Wailuku Coffee Company) and delicious and unique places to eat. Shopping in Wailuku town on Main St. is an experience with its pawn and antique shops, some boutiques, a specialty shop for fishing and another for outrigger canoe paddling, and the historic Iao Theater. The renowned Maui Arts and Cultural Center (the MACC) is also found in Wailuku across from the harbor.
Kahului is the place to go for supply shopping, with Costco, Target, and Walmart for your home needs, and Lowes and the Home Depot for any home improvements. Also found in Kahului are some of Maui’s best tacos (Acevedos and Tight Tacos) and Kanaha Beach Park with its powder white sand is a local and kitesurfing favorite.
