The Northshore of Maui is a water sportsman's dream. Ho’okipa Beach Park is affectionately called the windsurfing capital of the world. Maui’s beautiful north shore is relatively undeveloped. The rugged coastline with beautiful beaches is the first place on Maui to receive the tradewinds, creating wind-swell and perfect water sporting conditions. The Northshore is home to Peahi (Jaws,) the surf break made famous through XL Big Wave competitions.

Paia, the Northshore’s main town is a collection of boutiques, gift shops, art galleries, and restaurants. Paia is also home to Mana Foods, Maui’s best natural grocery store. Paia can be characterized as a hippy, funky, cool, beach town with lots of tourists and great local businesses. Paia is also home to Paia Bay, a lovely crescent- shaped beach, backed by the Paia Youth Center, which extends for 2 miles westward along the coast becoming Secret Beach, beautiful Baldwin Beach, then Baby Beach. The community of Spreckelsville backs up to the beautiful beaches and contains the Maui Country Club.

East of Paia is the Kuau, home to the famous Mama’s Fish House, and further still is Haiku. The community of Haiku is largely rural with quaint neighborhoods mixed together with grand estates. There are two town ‘centers’ in Haiku, both former pineapple canneries. The Pauwela Cannery Center on West Kuiaha Rd is where the wonderful café Baked On Maui is housed, and the Haiku Cannery, where Kokoma and Haiku Roads meet, contains the Haiku Market grocery store and the restaurant Colleens. Also in the area of the Haiku Cannery is the Aloha Aina Center with more restaurants, offices, a gym, and arguably one of Maui’s best sushi places, Nuka.
